After watching an episode of mermaid man and barnacle boy, SpongeBob and Patrick see a commercial for the new book telling their origin and that they will be signing the book starting at 8. SpongeBob is unhappy due to the fact that he has to go to boating school. Patrick suggest calling in sick, but SpongeBob doesn’t want his perfect attendance record to end. They concoct a plan that SpongeBob will pretend to go to the bathroom but will sneak to the comic book store.

The next day in boating school SpongeBob pretends to have to go. Mrs.Puff gives him the bathroom key and tells him to return it to her desk, with that SpongeBob exits the school. Him and Patrick get to the store and get their books signed and walk through jellyfish fields. The jellyfish start to lift up Patrick and let him sit on them with Patrick stating their “friendly”. They then throw themselves into SpongeBob’s net then leave. SpongeBob and Patrick continue ending up buying Ice cream. The saleswoman congratulates SpongeBob on being her 100th costumer and tells him he can come back for free Ice cream anytime.

The two pursuit into goo lagoon where they get into a Badminton match with Sandy and a friend named Dale. SpongeBob and Patrick end Sandy’s reign and unbeatable and are convinced by their fans to play another round. Then the cops come and arrest Dale, who is an ex-con on probation, for eating gummy fish (for cannibalism). A fish tells SpongeBob that Dale was a nice guy until he started cutting class. With this, he continues onto the school.

SpongeBob has to race through the Bikini Bottom hug fest where a woman grabs him. He forces her to let go and continues. He ends up in a pit of tar and starts to drown, remembering the last words she said to him “Return it to my desk, OR YOU ARE IN BIG, BIG, TROUBLE, MISTER!”. SpongeBob then fights his way out with a crowd cheering him on. He makes it back to the school with Mrs. Puff at the door. He explains what he did with her not knowing what he is talking about. Cops appear behind her because she is being arrested for missing jury duty. The car pulls off with her telling SpongeBob do not ditch. SpongeBob says he will never ditch again leaving her confused.

Along with his new personality, SpongeBob purchases a new suburban home and works in a cubicle at the Krusty Krab like “normal” people do. Instead of regular Krabby Patties, he prints them out on pieces of paper. He soon loses his job after the customers notice the new tastless burger.

Afterwards, SpongeBob goes over to Squidward’s house and talks to him. He states that Squidward is not normal, pointing out thet Squidward has various abnormalities, such as a large “bulbous” nose, odd eyes, and no pants. Angered, Squidward kicks SpongeBob out of his home.

SpongeBob wakes up one morning to discover that he is the only one left in Bikini Bottom; even Gary is not at home to greet him. At first, SpongeBob finds this hard to take. In a panic, he runs around town in a desperate attempt to find someone, only to not find a soul.

When the others do not return, SpongeBob decides to live out everyone’s lives for them. He makes a bubble version of himself in his front yard, then runs to the top floor of Squidward’s house, pretending to be Squidward yelling at SpongeBob for making too much noise. SpongeBob then runs to the Krusty Krab, imitating Squidward and Mr. Krabs. He imitates Sandy and Patrick at the Treedome and Rock respectively before running to the boating school and pretending to be Mrs. Puff. In the classroom, he realizes that living out everyone’s lives will not work, and he breaks down crying on Mrs. Puff’s desk. SpongeBob’s mood quickly changes when he discovers a stack of blank driver’s licenses. He takes a picture of himself, and prints out his own license. He then takes off with the student driver boat, naming it “Boaty”, and joyriding throughout the city.

SpongeBob and Boaty become inseparable. SpongeBob sleeps with the boat, and parks it inside both his house and Krusty Krab. But Boaty realizes that SpongeBob is slowly going insane. In his closet, SpongeBob has erected a statue of Patrick out of raw Krabby Patty meat, which he carries out a conversation with.

Soon, everyone else returns to Bikini Bottom, after being away for weeks. Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob that everyone’s mysterious disappearance was really a holiday to celebrate being away from SpongeBob for a day (according to SpongeBob, they were gone for weeks). Before venturing off, a giant effigy of SpongeBob is erected, then burned. Everyone then dances on the ashes before boarding a bus. SpongeBob is honored by this instead of insulted. Soon, though, it is time for everyone, including SpongeBob, to leave again, celebrating time away from Patrick, and like SpongeBob before him, Patrick is soon the only one in Bikini Bottom.

It’s a normal day at the Krusty Krab when suddenly Plankton is seen in a wrecking ball machine. Spongebob and Mr. Krabs thought it was going to hit them but instead it hit the Chum Bucket instead. Then a huge coliseum replaces it. Since it’s free, everyone goes there and the Krusty Krab is empty. So they decided to go there to see what’s there. In the Coliseum, Plankton gets a lion and a gladiator but it turns out to be Patrick. Spongebob, suprised about this, doesn’t want him to get hurt so he jumps down and tries to save him. The crowd gets mad because they want to see body parts. Plankton tries to stop it but giving them Chum Sticks. But since it’s bad, everyone begins leaving but he closes the gate and forces them to watch. Meanwhile, Spongebob and Patrick still try to escape from the lion. When Patrick’s food necklace gets knocked out, it turns out that the lions likes the food and stopped chasing them. Plankton gets angry and takes the food but the lion gets furious and chases him out of the coliseum. Back at the Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs raise the cost of a Krabby Patty to 10 dollars. If they refuse, then the lion will get them. Then they all enjoy a laugh but unlike most episodes, they slowly stop and walk away.

SpongeBob soon realizes that the statue is really covered in jellyfish poop, hence the statue’s different look. He cleans it up, which disgusts Sandy. After that, Spongebob and Sandy walk away, while SpongeBob is saying that maybe someday people will know the name SpongeBob SquarePants. Then, in the epiloge SpongeBuck and Patrick’s ancestor sing a song called “Idiot Friends.”

He commonly asks how the weather is to anyone who happens to walk by. Squidward, approving of the new SpongeBob, says that he might enjoy the new SpongeBob. SpongeBob then goes to a bus stop and finds Patrick acting silly. After a cup of tea at Squidward’s house, he realizes that he no longer wants to be normal anymore. Upon realization, he asks Patrick to become the way he used to be… a weird person. Therefore, SpongeBob and Patrick do silly things like sliding on water in their underwear, jellyfishing, and several other things, each time adding a hole to his body. When SpongeBob is about to become his original self, he becomes normal again and starts crying. Squidward, being normal now just like SpongeBob, comes to Patrick’s house, with the “normal” look. Shocking SpongeBob, SpongeBob immediately becomes his original self again, and then admits that he is finally glad to be normal again.

SpongeBob, whom of which was singing along happily to a censored song about the Krabby Patty formula, comes to find Plankton and thinks that he is in a rock band.
